A Doubly Better Version

IMG_0654Perfect love sometimes does not come until the first grandchild. ~Welsh Proverb

That may not be the best theology. . .certainly perfect love always comes in Jesus. . .but something has happened to me that I’ve not ever known before!  Jacob “Grey” Stevenson arrived yesterday and I might never be the same.

He’s 9lbs 4 oz, 21 inches long and already stealing our hearts with those dimples.

What is ahead for this little man? Continue reading

Screwtape Comments About Past, Present and Future

screwtapeToday, I am recommitting to live primarily in the present with Jesus.  He is the eternal “I Am.”  Please read this amazing excerpt from The Screwtape Letters, by C.S. Lewis.  If you are unaware of this amazing book, you need to know that Screwtape is evil and is mentoring a young demon on how to best destroy Christians.  The “Enemy” in this passage is God Himself.   Continue reading

One Guy in the Bible Who Would Have Thrived in Present American Culture

lifelibertyandthepursuitofhappiness400__1309544250_5727Who is the one guy in the bible who would have thrived in our present American culture?

You can read his story in Mark 10:17-22.  We know him as the rich, young, ruler. He had money, manners and morals; riches, rank and religion; prosperity, posterity and power.  This is a guy who looked for investments and knew how to get a return.  He was a man of influence, he knew how to climb the ladder of success, He looked out for #1.  He would have fit right in to our suburban neighborhoods and been a leader in any of our churches.  He was devoted to life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness. Dear Friends of The Malachi Network,

I’ve got so much to tell you about our network, but before I do, let me share something from God’s Word that is hitting me hard right now. There are two doors in Revelation 3-5. The first door (Rev. 3:20) is closed and Jesus is standing at it. It is the door into our world. Jesus is waiting patiently for us to open that door and let Him in. He wants to eat or fellowship with us; to meet our needs and bless us.

The 2nd door is an open door (Rev. 4:1). It is the door through which we can enter into Christ’s world. If we enter, we will see Christ’s power (flashes of lightning and peals of thunder); His holiness (divine creatures sing “Holy, Holy, Holy day and night); His worthiness (elders cast their crowns at His feet); His sacrifice (the slain Lamb stands in the center of a throne); and His mission (this is about people from every tribe, language, people and nation knowing Christ).

Both doors are equally important. My fear is that we settle in at the 1st door and focus on Jesus coming into our world and meeting our needs. Right now, the 2nd door is standing open. Take time today to enter into Christ’s world. Be careful, it seems like it is hard to stay on your feet, you might find yourself face down in worship! Continue reading

One Thing God Has Spoken

A boy jumps off a diving board into a swimming pool to cool off, in Solana Beach“One thing God has spoken, two things have I heard:  That you, O God, are strong, and that you, O Lord are loving.”

Psalm 62:11,12

The brand new Luce Center had just been built in our two stop light town in central Kentucky.  The whole town was buzzing about this state of the art physical education building that would be open to the public to use for the first several weeks before they sold memberships.  My boys, Zachary (8) and Jacob (6) were excited about the olympic size pool with a low and high dive.

When we got in the pool, Zach took right to the diving board.  It seemed like his legs never stopped moving.  He jumped off into the water, kicked over to the ladder and then did the very fast walk back to the diving board (the lifeguard was a stickler on running!).

Jacob, not so much.   Continue reading
